Sleeping Children – Lullabies For Debauchery (FR DR)

Sleeping Children – Lullabies For Debauchery (2004)

Right after the split-up of his band named Regard in 2002, Sap~hire set up Sleeping Children. (which name refers to children, that is to say to carefreeness and sleep, in a single word to ephemeral protection) But this is only during February 2003 that Sap~hire met Murmur, the first singer, during a gothic party washed down with plenty of alcohol. Crepuscule, the band first guitarist, joined Sleeping Children right after the first rehearsals. In May, the band recorded In Vivo Test. Although this first demo was far from being perfect, it allowed the band to become quite known and to do its first shows.

In Vivo test was released on the 20th of June 2003, which was also the date of Sleeping Children first show (in Reims, FR). Unfortunately, Murmur and Crépuscule left the band the day after the show. The few copies of In Vivo test were sold quite quickly and Sap~hire decided to allow the download of the three songs taken from the CD via the bands website. Then, the band devoted itself to shows and the recording of a new demo which will finally, never be released. In March 2004, after a gig in Erlangen (DE), 4 replacing members left the band, and Sap~hire was the only survival.

Even though many believed that the band is dead and buried , Sap~hire announced, only one week after, a new formation: Original singer Murmur is back, while Lois John Slut is the new guitarist. Sap~hire now plays bass and synths. Without loosing time, Sleeping Children recorded in April 2004 Automatic Mass Amnesia, released on the 7th of May, and the same day, the still unsigned band started a mini-tour and played in Noisiel (FR), Basel (CH, opening for Antiworld), London (UK, Opening for Antiworld), Nancy (FR), Nijmegen (NL) and Pisa (IT).
Some days after, the band signed a record deal with Strobelight Records and started the recording of its debut album, called “Lullabies for Debauchery”.

“Lullabies for Debauchery” was released by Strobelight Records on November 8, 2004. Strobelight did a great promotional work for the album, and the band appeared on many prestigious magazines worldwide. (Gothic, Zillo, Sonic Seducer, Elegy, Black Magazin, Transmission etc) The band took the road in order to promote their album, and played in UK, France, Germany, Austria as well with a fabulous headliner-tour in Poland with bands as such as Miguel & the Living Dead and The Deathcamp Project. In May 2005, Sleeping Children played in front of an amazing 2000 persons crowd at the well known Wave Gotik Treffen Festival.

One month later, Sap~hire and Lois decided that Murmur must go away due to some human problems, but the three guys stayed great friends. They are still nowadays.
After some auditions, Sleeping Children chose an amazing young singer called Romeo. After more shows, SC wrote news songs in winter 2005, but the band decided to take an undetermined pause.

Astaron – Astaron (1987) LP

Astaron – Self-titled LP   (Post-punk , avant garde AUS)

Here are the only two vinyl releases from Vienna, Austria cult band Astaron. When I was in Vienna a few months ago, I found the LP for a couple euro. It looked interesting, but unfortunately the record store did not have a record player (or I didn’t know how to ask in German if they had one… I forget) so I had to buy it and hope it was good. I had to wait 10 days before I would get home and listen to it, and the anticipation mounted each day. I bought almost 60 records in Austria, but this one above all others piqued my curiosity. It looked so … promising; I would be disappointed if it was anything less than gloomy gothic perfection.
When I finally got situated at home, laid in bed, and heard the first crackles of the record give way to synths and organs and chants and hauntingly ethereal vocals, I knew that this would instantly become one of my all-time favorites. I’ve listened to it dozens of times now, and have not ceased to be entranced by its melancholy beauty. I loved it enough to order the EP, which I just received today and have decided to share with others.
The music ranges from dirgelike chants to ethereal darkwave to haunting ballads. The EP is a bit more cold/darkwave sounding, with danceable beats on all songs; the LP is all doom and gloom, especially from the song “In an Absence” on to the end. Elements of groups like Vyllies, Cocteau Twins, I’m So Hollow, Malaria, Kas Product, and early Danse Society can be heard throughout these releases. Many songs (especially on the EP) also remind me of stuff by more recent darkwave bands, especially The Vanishing and Autonervous.
As for this duo, it contains two girls, who are never named. I do know, through some research, that one of the members was Angie Morth, aka Angie Modepunk, one of the members of seminal minimal electronic/post punk band Viele Bunte Autos (whose entire catalog has been reissued on cd, and who can be heard on their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/vielebunteautosmusik
Apparently Astaron also released at least one cassette, called Sarg Tape. If anyone can provide mp3s from this or anything else Astaron released, I would be forever happy. I simply cannot overstate how much I love the music this band produced.

dildos – demo 2007 (JAP psychobilly)

DILDOS
japanese psychobilly

In 2007, they released a split ep (psycho maniax) with battle of ninjamanz, another japanese psychobilly band. Now let me tell you about japanese psychobilly. If you haven’t heard already, the japs are taking the genre one step further, it is a speedfreak fest-not always good i admit- and most of the bands also give a lot of emphasis on stage presence.. Well, the DILDOS take all this just one more step beyond.. A psycho theatre on stage, they wear dresses, costumes, clown noses (sound KLINGONZ-y? well it is) and whatever lunacy  (check the youtube vids) and their sound is also quite different.. Inheriting some strong post-punk vibes, the bass is always in the front, with the literally psycho vocals..just listen to awakening vibrate, a soon to be classic track in the psycho playlists…The dildos make the cut , amongst the rest of the jap psycho-punkabilly bands… stick with them..

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgcjnAwbznI]

Inside the download are the 2 songs of the split ep, 2 songs from the demo, and one song from Plan X from the Far East (2010)

the violators – gangland 7” (1982)

ALBUM ART

http://www.4shared.com/get/tsGG1Ksi/VIOLATORS_-_GANGLAND_EP_7__198.html

1982 was truly a fine year for the UK punk singles, Inspired by the fierce rioting that swept the under-privileged parts of the nation the previous year, “summer of ’81” by The Violators begins innocuously enough with a simplistic, sombre bass intro, but quickly escalates into a passionate frenzy fuelled by huge pounding rhythms, molten guitars and desperate female vocals. Whilst on the flip-side, this time powered by intense male vocals, the irrepressible Live Fast, Die Young rages as id there no tomorrow. All in all, a commanding one-two that turned heads the length and breadth of the country and guaranteed the band a place in the annals of punk rock history. A shame then that they played so few shows and released to little vinyl, one can only imagine what may have resulted had they been stuck in a decent studio with a proper budget and let loose on a full album. Confirmed in Chapel-en-le-Frith in 1979 by vocalist Shaun (Cess) Stiles and bassist John (Matchi) Marchington (both formerly of The Dismal Sports), The Violators also comprised Helen Hill on vocals, Mark Coley on guitar, and Anthony (Ajax) Hall on drums, and (like their near-neighbours from New Mills, Blitz and Attak) were soon signed to Worcestershire label, No future. Their vinyl debut came with two on the hugely popular “A country fit for heroes” 12″, the moody “Die with dignity” and exuberant “Government stinks” both ably demonstrated the diversity and musical ambition at work. Sadly, after two glorious punk singles that both made the top ten of the independent charts the aforementioned classic, “Summer of ’81”, and “Gangland” and a 12″ that mainly compiled all of their vinyl appearances to date, the band imploded before theyd even hit their creative stride. Helen and Coley left to form the brief-lived Taboo, whilst Shaun and Co. recruited Louise (Lou) King on vocals and Andrew Hill on guitar for the “Life on the red line” single. It was the last stand for The Violators though as Shaun, Matchi and Lou went on to form Ice the falling rain, who did one further single, “Life illusion”, for the No future offshoot future, before also disintegrating.

The late 70 early 80’s UK hardcore punk band From New Mills, this was another of the good Punk/Oi! bands produced in the Stockport/Manchester area. The Violators used the stark imagery from the film “A Clockwork Orange” to great effect. Never really comfortable in the punk role they, nevertheless, produced some great songs and were much liked by Garry Bushell of ‘Sounds’ who gave them a lot of press. They split very soon after the release of their second single.

There’s blood on the street
And the smell is so sweet
Cause another blue bastard has gone down
See the boots swarming round his head
They’re gonna see him dead
Nightstick in his hand
He tried to rule this land
But that’s no way to make a country great
It takes more, more than force
You’ve got to give it a voice

So it’s goodnight to one more facist clown
We’ve got a riot
You can’t keep us quiet
We’ve got a riot, we’ve got a riot
This is our answer to your law

Don’t shed no tears for him
His life was lived in sin
No one has the right to order you
Don’t be told what life is about

Brixton- riot riot
Toxteth- riot riot
Bristol- riot riot
Moss Side- riot riot
England- riot riot
England- riot riot riot riot riot…
